What ACPE Offers

The Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education provides resources for high school educators and administrators to support their student’s education and career development, such as the Alaska Career Information System and the Going to College in Alaska magazine. Anything listed here is available to you. If you need a copy of a publication, or other help to take advantage of these services, contact ACPE's Outreach staff.

 Training for Education Professionals

The Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education (ACPE) provides regular training on using the Alaska Career Information System (AKCIS), for education professionals at the secondary and postsecondary level, including job center staff helping adults make a career transition. More information is available at the AKCIS web site.

Education professionals can contact ACPE to request training on other topics, such as general financial aid, or on ACPE financial aid products, such as the AlaskAdvantage Loan Program®.

Share your story with other Alaskan middle school students!

Middle school students in 6th, 7th or 8th grade can be part of the newspaper, What's Your Story?

This newspaper showcases Alaskans’ dreams, careers, and successes. It explores different education paths. Every 7th and 8th grade student in the state receives a copy in the mail, and some Alaska middle school students participate in writing it! You can be a part of this publication!  Click here for a submission packet.

 College Is for You

Alaskan kids send the message that everyone is college material. This poster is distributed at the beginning of the school year to every 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade classroom in the state.

 Alaska Career Information System (AKCIS)
Educators

This interactive online career and college planning system is available free to all Alaska schools. It offers detailed information, assessments, and activities to help students from middle school through college to create a personal career plan.

Students can:

  • create a portfolio to build custom resumes
  • keep track of assessment results
  • save information about colleges and careers of interest

As a teacher, you can use administration tools to give assignments, send messages to student portfolios, and monitor student progress. Free AKCIS materials and training are available! Learn more at www.akcis.org, or call the AKCIS helpline.
