    Finding Job Opportunities

Finding a job after graduation can be an intimidating task. Check your local newspaper classifieds for job listings, keep an eye out for local job fairs, and see if your school has a career services center on campus to help you. Many useful tools for your job hunt are available online:

Your local job center and career services center are good places to go for preparation help.  A great online resources is the Alaska Career Information System (AKCIS).  You can get access to AKCIS through your school, through a job center, or by using your Alaska zip code. In AKCIS, use the Job Search section to find information on all of the steps in the job search process including:

    • choosing an occupation
    • locating job leads
    • checking out employers
    • creating resumes and cover letters
    • preparing and practicing for interviews
    • following up and staying positive

You can also create a free personal portfolio to access the My Education & Work History section, in which you can:

    • save your education, work, and other relevant experience
    • generate custom resumes for each application
    • store cover letters and work samples
