Outreach Presentations

ACPE presentations can be tailored for a variety of audiences, ranging from pre-teens to adults. Content and length are adjusted as appropriate to the audience. Click here for a map of our outreach service locations.

Choosing a College

With so many schools out there, narrowing the college selections can be difficult for students. Choosing a School helps students discover what characteristics are important to them, from size and location, to academics and extracurricular activities.
Target Audience: High School Students (10th-12th grade)
Presentation Length: 20-45 minutes

Choosing a Career

The workforce is changing nationally, and in Alaska as well. Choosing a Career presents the latest studies and information about earning potential for top career fields. Choosing a Career helps students relate their own activities, skills, and interests to jobs that may suit them, and presents them with educational options for succeeding in their chosen field.
Target Audience: Middle and High School Students, Adults
Presentation Length: 20-60 minutes

Paying for College

Paying for College walks students and their parents through the financial aid process. Beginning with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, the presentation will help all families get started in the process. Also included in Paying for College is information on scholarships, basic financial information relating to loans, and answers to common myths. Regardless of a family's income, student financial aid is available!
Target Audience: High School and Postsecondary Students, Parents, Adult Students

Scholarship Searches

A more comprehensive look at scholarships, this presentation also helps students understand what comprises an attention-getting scholarship “resume.” Helpful hints on where to search for scholarships and key target dates can help students and their families find that free money for school.

Completing Financial Aid Paperwork

Completing Financial Aid Paperwork offers an in-depth look at the FAFSA and education loan promissory notes. The seminar can be offered in conjunction with computer Internet access, coaching attendees through the actual process. The seminar includes a companion workbook that provides hints and tips for participants. The seminar can also explain the financial aid award process and help participants with questions specific to their school's paperwork.

Basic Student Finances

As students prepare for college and living away from home, Basic Student Finances can be a key to success. From opening and managing a checking account to budgeting and insurance basics, this presentation has the student's best long-term interest in mind.

Preparing Pre-Teens and Young Teenagers for College

Competition for college admission can be keen. This presentation helps both students and parents understand the planning process for college admission. It gives the students an understanding of what it takes to achieve admission. It is designed to make young people aware of what various types of institutions expect from a student— during admissions consideration and after, and once accepted and enrolled.

Internet Resources for Higher Education Planning

The Web can be a vast source of information about college, training programs, careers, and financial aid. In an effort to help focus the family’s attention on best available resources, Internet Resources for Higher Education Planning teaches how and where to surf for established, well-known, and highly-rated web sites.

Yes, College is for You

Don't know what's in it for you or whether you are for college? This presentation discusses the benefits of a higher education, the types of education available, and how students can achieve their goals. From high school course selection or preparation courses to selecting a school that will reinforce success and how to pay for it, this presentation shows that, yes, college is for you, no matter who you are.
