I'm Going to College

The I’m Going to College event is designed for elementary students to create an awareness of higher education while instilling the idea that going to college is an attainable goal. Partnering with Alaska's accredited schools, the program aims to educate children about the advantages of higher education and have them experience college firsthand on a field trip to a local campus.

For several weeks prior to the event, students will be given classroom lessons and activities on various topics including: What is College?, Benefits of a College Education, Financial Aid, Getting Ready for College, and Careers. In addition to the classroom lessons, parents of each of the participating students will be invited to a special parent’s night. The parents night is scheduled to give parents a chance to ask questions and to encourage them to reinforce the importance of having a college education.
